S Y N O P S I S
The NDR series robot "Andrew" (RobinWilliams) is introduced in 2005 into the Martin family home to performhousekeeping and maintenance duties. The family's reactions range fromacceptance and curiosity to outright rejection and deliberate vandalismby their surly older daughter, Grace (Lindze Letherman), which leads tothe discovery that Andrew can both identify emotions and reciprocate inkind. When Andrew accidentally breaks a figurine belonging to "LittleMiss" Amanda (Hallie Kate Eisenberg), he carves a replacement out ofwood. The family is astonished by this creativity and “Sir” RichardMartin (Sam Neill) takes Andrew to his manufacturer, to inquire if allthe robots are like him. The CEO of the company sees this developmentas a problem and wishes to scrap Andrew. Angered, Martin takes Andrewhome and allows him to pursue his own development, encouraging Andrewto educate himself in the humanities.
